New Episodes
We have a made few episodes since my last blog. But it was pretty tough because of the we had some scheduling issues. The most recent videos have just been us recapping the recent events like normal, but we had to do a speed round due to us coming back from Winter Break. New Projects The biggest new of all, is that NPSN has come to an end. All of us agreed hat we would like to pursue different projects and just branch out. Making NPSN has been a lot of fun, but it can be very stressful and repetitive. Because of this, we decided that we would like to try different projects and build different skills. I learned a lot from this project, and I'm very glad that it was something I got to be a part of. But it's time to move on. I hope maybe next year something similar could get started in the future by new people. So long. State Title Fun The football team won the 5A state championship, so obviously that is means to celebrate. We decided to have a little fun with it, so I personally bought two confetti cannons I found at party city and launched them during our video. That was a lot of fun to do, only problem was the cleanup that happened after. That took awhile, but it was worth it in the end. Also, the canons were sort of louder than than we expected so we had to apologize to the librarian for making so much noise. Not Much to Talk About We have been recently struggling to find things to talk about due to the lack of sports. However, with the coming of winter sports, we are slowly having more things to talk about. Boy's basketball, wrestling, swimming, and diving have just got going so it's a little more to talk about. For awhile, all there was to talk about was girl's basketball, which was fun because we had highlights, but it made for a short video so we had to improvise a little bit. Nobody sends us highlights like we were originally planning, instead we just find the highlights ourselves by talking to our friends and then using their hudl accounts to screen record the highlights that we decide to use. Reflecting out the Semester This semester has been a lot of fun, and it has really peaked my interest in creating videos and producing things. My friends and I have really been enjoying the freedom we have, and it seem like a lot of people like the videos we make. I've learned a lot about editing videos, a lot more than I ever thought I would be able to understand. We have been trying to talk more about sports that don't get a lot of recognition, but that was difficult during the football team's state run, because of their success, and because there weren't a lot of other sporting events. However, as the semester ends, more sports are finally getting going. Due to the snow days we had this week, we weren't able to produce a video before break, which is kind of sad. However, being flexible and trying to make adjustments is part of the job. I can't wait to see what the next semester will hold. The first one, we decided to make another funny intro because there weren't a lot of sporting events. We made an intro similar to friends, and used the youtube to mp3 converter again to get the audio. We also mentioned a debate club in the episode after that, in an attempt to provide more recognition to other students. We opted out of doing fun intros this time because we mad more highlights and interesting things were happening in sports again. Seasons Change Now that winter sports are starting up, we have a lot more content to work with. For the moment, it's only girls basketball, but the extra sport helps a lot. We can't wait for more sports to start up so we can have more content to work with. New Editing I have added an intro graphic that looks very official and even used some audio from the college football playoffs that makes it all sound very official. I've also started doing a slow zoom out with and then fading in some outro music so that the ending of the videos don't seem abrupt. I've also learned how to zoom in on certain parts of the videos and put clips in slow motion. I'm learning more and more every week. Editing proved to be a bit of a challenge these weeks because I was trying something new with the audio. We wanted to do a classic slow zoom out of the shot while music plays. So I went onto youtube and find a chill song. I then copied and pasted the song into a youtube to Mp3 converter called https://ytmp3.cc/, which then allowed me to put the music into the video. It came out really nice. Changes We also decided to add a table into the studio and sit down because we listened to some feedback. People thought that us standing looked a little awkward and to be honest I have to agree. The table looks a lot better than us just standing there. Dawson had a great idea to make a fun intro during a week where not of lot sporting events happened, so we made our own full house intro. Again I used the Mp3 converter to get the theme song, and then edited it to the way we liked it. It was a lot of fun to make and people seem to like it so that's always a plus. Every week we are coming up with more and more ideas to keep things fun and fresh. Adobe Premiere was undergoing maintenance the week leading up to break so we couldn't release a video. We just tweeted out a funny blooper we had left over and apologized for not being able to produce a video. I also used that extra time to play around with the editing software and see what kind of cool stuff I could do, Speed Round When we came back from break, we had a ton of sporting events to recap, so we decided to cut out highlights and do a speed round, recapping stuff that had happened. It was a lot of fun to film and edit and to just have fun with it. I discovered some cool graphics that I could put in the videos. The graphics show the scores and the teams whop played they look semi-professional. We also held a moment of silence for the team's who's seasons are over. Issues Editing As fun and cool as the editing process was this time, it had lots of issues as well. We had another strange schedule this week so that made it more difficult to edit because I had less time. I accidentally deleted all the pictures I had in the video while editing so I had to put them back in. Finally, the video took over an hour to export, and for some reason wouldn't tweet out from my computer so I had to download the video onto my phone and then crop out the intro and finally tweet it out. Editing can be very stressful sometimes. Newest Video Link: https://twitter.com/npsportsnetwork/status/1185214846515712002?s=20 Initial Thoughts My group and I stumbled upon this project by accident. We originally wanted to do a different project, but it didn't pan out. The idea for the sports network got brought up in one of our classes brainstorming sessions. We thought it would be fun to have a cool way recognize student athletes who typically don't get the recognition they deserve. We thought showing highlights and recapping scores were great ways to properly recognize all athletics of our school. Project Proposal We created our proposal and presented to some school board members and people like that. The proposal was essentially just breaking down what the general idea of NPSN was, and talking about the logistics of everything. It wasn't as nerve wracking as I thought it would be, and it was kinda fun to dress nice and feel professional. Help After our proposal, Mr. Young offered to help us by showing us a great room with a green screen wall, and he let us borrow a really nice camera. That was a great help, and something we never thought would be possible. We bought cheap microphones with connector cables using the class budget because we originally planned on recording with our phones. I also received help with editing from Mr. Large, he as sort of been showing me the ropes of Adobe Premiere. Without the help of faculty members, getting this project off the ground could have went very differently. Making the Videos Since then we have been keeping a record of the scores of games throughout the week, then writing scripts, filming the broadcast, and then editing. Filming is really funny because we mess u and just try to have good time with it. We found a way to use or school laptops as tele-prompters so that we don't have to memorize our script using https://cueprompter.com/. Editing has proven to be a challenge, it's a lot of trial and error. Adobe Premiere can be intimidating because it has so many options, but once you figure it out, it is a really neat tool. Once the editing process is complete, we release the videos on twitter from our NPSN twitter account we created. It has been a lot of fun, and a lot of people seem to enjoy the videos so far. We have now started dressing in nice clothes to make the whole thing feel more professional. We hope that we get better and better each time we make a video. The real challenge is going to be finding ways to keep the videos interesting, we have to keep reinventing and stay creative. |
