Adversity
We had a little trouble finding our next restaurant to donate to us. We called Q'doba, they answered and gave us their email and told us they would be in contact with us, but they never replied. So next we called Chick-Fil-A, they didn't answer the first time, so we called again. We got in contact with a very helpful woman named Emily Garrison who gave us her email, and she actually replied! She sent us over a donation request form, and has been very helpful in coordinating the whole thing. The only problem is, we have to wait a whole month before we can do it. So we decided to call some donut shops and see if they'd be willing to help. They both told us they would call us back, but never did. That's okay though, because we have Chick-Fil-A locked in for April 8th, unless the whole Coronavirus thing has schools closed down then too. I'm very excited for the next event!

The Sugar Creek Brickhouse + Dairy Queen
For our second lunch bunch, we decided to do one for B lunch. We contacted The Sugar Creek Brickhouse because it is decently close and we know the owner well. He was our coach in football. He agreed to give us a bunch of wings with ranch, carrots, and celery. Next we contacted the closest Dairy Queen to see if they would donate an ice cream cake, but their freezers broke, so they couldn't donate anything. Instead of Dairy Queen, we decided to buy cookies from needlers on our own. We went to pick up all the food, got back, and were ready to serve some people. Unfortunately, the people who agreed to do it backed out, so we had all these wings with no one to eat them. So we scanned the lunch room and convinced people to come up and eat with the promise to pay us later. They all have paid us, and we raised $135 for the Riley Children's Hospital! The lunch itself went great! The hardest part was probably having to clean up because there was kind of a mess. But all in all, it was a big success! Mama Nita's + Cake Hole
For our first lunch, we decided to go with local companies who are a quick 2-minute drive from the high school, and who we knew would be willing to help. I called Mama Nita's, and at first one of the workers was not very nice and shut me down pretty fast. So we called Papa John's but they couldn't do it. Then we called Mama Nita's again, and the manager picked up and was very helpful. Next Eric emailed the Cakehole and got the deserts ready to go. We invited all of our friends and got about ten people to come eat, and raised $60. The event took place on February 5th, and went pretty smooth. The day of we drove to the restaurants and picked up the food. We had to stop and buy our own drinks for everyone but that was no big deal. People really seemed to enjoy it, and we're very exciting for the next event. The Idea
Our new Project is called the Riley Lunch Bunch. It is a legacy project which means that the service learning classes that came before us have done this project in the past. The idea is that we ask restaurants to donate food to us, which we will then sell to seniors. We will then use that money to donate to the Riley Children's Hospital. In return, the restaurants will receive "free' promotion from the school at sporting events. So Far So far, we have sent out a google form to all the seniors asking them which lunch they are in, and which restaurants they would prefer to eat from. We have had 59 respondents so far, which is great! We are planning on having Mama Nita's and The Cakehole (two local restaurants). The Cakehole is currently willing to help, and we are waiting on confirmation from Mama Nita's. If all goes well, we plan to have our first lunch on February 5th. |
